Grand Summary of Year 2009

Today marks the last day of 2009.

It has been a fruitful and pleasant year for myself,

and I hope that it is the same for everyone as well!

Being a Anime fan myself,

I would like to categorise this year’s events into arcs,

and here they are:

1. New Year Arc (Jan 2009)

2. Chinese New Year Arc (Jan/Feb 2009)

3. Freestyle Drills Arc (Feb/Mar 2009)

4. Company Camp Arc (Mar 2009)

5. Speech Day & Sports Day Arc (Apr 2009)

6. Mid Year Arc (May 2009)

7. June Holiday Arc (June 2009)

8. SPS Family Carnival Arc (July 2009)

9. O’ Level Orals & Listening Arc (Aug 2009)

10. Prelims & Teacher’s Day Arc (Aug/Sep 2009)

11. O’ Level Examinations Arc (Oct/Nov 2009)

12. 58th Cadet Officers Course Arc (Nov/Dec 2009)

13. Post 58th COC Arc (Dec 2009)

14. Final Days of 2009 Arc (Dec 2009)

These are the 13 Chapters of 2009,

so… lets get started on my 2009 journey!

New Year Arc (Jan 2009)

The beginning of my O’ Level Year!

A new start to prove myself,

as I made many mistakes and failures last year.

My results were unsatisfactory,

but that is not gonna pull me down!

Cos, I have to work hard!!!

To get to the JC or Poly of my choice,

and to make my parents proud of me!

I took 4 re-examinations (A.Maths, Chem, Physics and Bio)

But I only passed A.Maths…

Sadly yes…

And was constantly asked to drop to Combined Science or drop the subject.

I refused, and continued to take those subjects,

cos I knew the extra information would benefit me if I enter a JC!

It was during this period when I received my appointment in Student Council as Treasurer and in NCC Air as the new Unit Sergeant Major (USM).

I was very happy with these 2 achievements

Chinese New Year Arc (Jan/Feb 2009)

The Student Council led by me organised 2 activities for the Marine Parade Residents.

One, was a small Chinese New Year celebration for the Old Folks living there.

Another, was organising 6 games for their Marine Parade Family Day cum Chinese New Year Celebrations!!!

Both events were headed by me,

No idea why, but that’s just the way it is…

Both of them were successful though,

Especially the Family Day,

As it was recognised as my project!

Freestyle Drills Arc (Feb/Mar 2009)

It was since end January when I started training my FSD Team for this year’s Freestyle Drill Competition.

It was a lot of hard work for me and my cadets as we stayed back every Friday to train for this competition held in early March for Air and Sea Districts.

Before our competition day,

I bought some of my cadets to watch the West FSD Competition as well as to meet my Camp Pinnacle friends from RVHS (G),

Qiao Wei and Joycelin.

Their routine was absolutely amazing!

I was very impressed with their performance,

Though there was a screw up at the start,

but she managed to pull the rest off excellently and confidently!!!

Even in spite of that,

They managed to claim 1st place amongst all the West District Units!!!

Our competition was next,

But sadly, we didn’t make it.

But no matter, there is still next year!!!

Finals was next,

I went alone to cheer on Qiao Wei and Joycelin again,

And they took 3rd place amongst all the NCC units!!!

Really happy for them!

Hope that they will shine again next year!

This event was one of my happiest moments so far!

Company Camp Arc (Mar 2009)

My company camp was during the March Holidays,

Clash with Advanced Drill Course, so cannot go… Sad L

But then again,

This year’s camp was fun,

Organised by my part and the Sec 5s,

I can proudly say that I have gotten to know my part mates better, same goes for my seniors!

It was a long 3 days of fun,

And those were one of my happiest moments of 2009!

Speech Day & Sports Day Arc (Apr 2009)

After March holidays,

Next up was our Speech Day,

Where this year,

NCDCC is our Guard-of-Honour.

I was NCC Air’s Contingent Commander

As well as one of the prestigious awardees!!!

The NCC Lim Soo Houw Award!!!

Never heard of it…

But was really glad that I got it,

As I was the 1st name of the Shield!!!

Really proud of myself!

This was followed by Sports Day,

Where we sold Bubble Tea and canned drinks again for the students body.

It was yet another successful event,

As everything went well and we managed to earn profit out of the drinks we sold!

Mid Year Arc (May 2009)

The Mid Years are up next!

I did my best!

But still failed 5 subjects…

I don’t know what is wrong with me…

Was it my studying method,

Or it is just that my answering technique and knowledge isn’t up to standard yet…

All I can do for now,

Is to work harder for the Prelims!!!

June Holiday Arc (June 2009)

Lots of catching up to do!

Had many remedial lessons during the first 2 weeks,

All went well,

Until the 3rd week when my favourite part C cadets went on their Specialist Course…

I was very worried for them at first,

But when I went to ask them for their results,

I was more than happy as many of them got 2SG,

Exactly 15/20 of them got it!!!

That was an achievement to be proud off!!!

SPS Family Carnival Arc (July 2009)

It was one the 3rd week Friday when I was informed that the Student Council had to plan a Haunted House…

As usual,

My President was a no show,

As he said he would have no time cos of LLTC…

Was wondering what if I agreed to becoming and LLTC OT this year again,

What would happen?

Apparently,

No one did anything until the 4th week Friday, when we had a meeting…

Despite that,

When I tried to rush through all the details during the 1st week of the new term, in spite of the fact that the event was on Saturday…

The others were still too slow…

In the end…

I did everything myself again,

With the help of Eng Houw…

It was with his help that the Haunted House became a wonderful success!!!

And I am really proud of it!

O’ Level MT Results (Aug 2009)

This happened after our O’ Level Listening and Oral examinations…

I received a C5 and a pass for my oral…

I was really shocked…

As I know my MT was one of my favourite and strongest subjects,

Yet I did so miserably…

And so I decided to re-sit for my exams in Nov,

Determined to score better the 2nd try!!!

Prelims & Teacher’s Day Arc (Aug/Sep 2009)

The Prelims period was the 1st time I ever studied like crazy!

The papers set by our school were difficult,

And though I still failed 4 of them,

I knew I have already done by best!

Since this was the last Teacher’s day I am celebrating with the Teachers of St. Pats,

I decided to make my own gift for all of them!

It was the first time I ever make my own gifts.

All I could say was,

I am proud of my creations!

O’ Level Examinations Arc (Oct/Nov 2009)

The time has finally arrived!!!

During this O’ Level period,

I went to school early daily to study with some of my friends from other classes.

It doesn’t matter to me even if I am not studying with my own classmates,

As I know that one way of learning,

Is to help and teach others.

If I can help my friends,

I can help myself as well!!!

It was also during this time when I was eagerly waiting for the reply from HQ NCC regards to my CLT course!

I asked Joycelin,

And she herself felt the same way as well…

But soon enough,

I received the letter,

It was during the end of 2nd week of the examinations,

And this made me pumped up to do my best for the last few papers!!!

58th Cadet Officers Course Arc (Nov/Dec 2009)

This 3 weeks course was the best one ever!!!

I guess I will let the pictures do the talking instead!!!

Post 58th COC Arc (Dec 2009)

Had 2 outings with my syndicate mates

One, was to play soccer at Kallang Cage…

Sadly, I missed it as I needed to attend a meeting at HQ.

But went back to meet them and watch AVATAR!

It was totally AWESOME!

The nice graphics and animation!

All the plants were so nice,

Wish they were REAL!

Next up was our Sentosa Outing!

Purpose there was really undefined…

Then again, we had lots of fun there!

I guess the pictures should do the talking again!

Final Days of 2009 Arc (Dec 2009)

The final event I had this year was organising a Birthday Surprise for Qiao Wei!

It was a great SUCCESS!

And extremely funny as well!

No pictures yet though…

But I think this last month of December was my most wonderful moment of the year…

With the 58th COC, my syndicate mates and everyone from the NCC!

Right now…

It’s the last day of 2009!

Later today,

I will write my 2010 Resolution!

Next year will be a tough year for many people of my age.

Hope everyone have a great last day!!!

Affirmation Ceremony and YOG

Next 2 events for us 58th COC Cadet Officers are the following:

  1. NCC Affirmation Ceremony and Open House 2010
  2. Singapore Youth Olympics 2010
This is considered quite crazy as we have 2 big events next year...

For the Affirmation Ceremony and Open House,
here are lots of things we have to do as we are split into 11 different committees,
each with a purpose to help tackle the organization and planning of this event...
I placed myself under the Performance Committee as IC and Decoration Committee as member as they are lack of people...
Plus, since most of them were my syndicate mates,
i should put in some more effort and help them as well!!!

For YOG,
i guess what attracts us most were the incentives given,
should say much though...
But i guess our job as Victory Ceremony Flag Bearers will be quite interesting as well,
except for the fact that they have many training sessions...

That's all!
Last few days before 2010!!!
Enjoy everyone!!!
will try to cover up all my posts before then!!!

And enjoy this festive season with your family and friends!!!
May all your dreams and wishes come true!!!

Friendship

Continuing after Passing out,
some of us volunteered to help out in the YOG Friendship Camp.
Though we started out on the last day,
but it was worth it,
as we had fun watching Snow White and the Seven Dwarves and Brother Bear...
Slack so much...
But the other two days were a lot tougher as all the athletes were leaving...
still very slack though,
as we still have time to play CounterStrike and Command & Conquer in the Recreation Room...
Plus,
not forgetting that the Sports School food was very nice,
i think its because we were eating catered food for 3 weeks...
All in all,
i guess it was a good start in accumulating points for my promotion.
Haha :D

That's all...
See ya!

Roar of the Kamikaze!!!

So let's continue to the last week of the 58th COC!!!

Day 10
It was the start of our tests.
Today, my Syndicate did our Methods Of Instruction (MOI)
We were allowed to pick out of 3 categories:
  1. Leadership Skills
  2. Military Related
  3. Open Topic
Most of us picked Open Topic and talked about lots of rubbish...
For example:
  • How to cross the road...
  • How does Jellyfish reproduce...
  • How to be late and get away with it...
  • How to play Dota...
  • How to survive a Zombie attack!!!
We had lots of fun listening to other's presentation and have learnt a lot as well!!!

The next half of the day was off to Nee Soon Camp for out IMT shoot using the SAR21.
It was new to all of us,
but i am sure that it was a wonderful experience as well...
Later that bus trip was the worst one ever,
as my friends were trying to matchmake me and one of our Sea Cadets, Mui Na.
Reason being me and jeremy met up with her on Sunday to make our new dance performance steps, and people call it a "Threesome"...
LOL!!!
I mean so what...
I have nothing to hide...
But it is also because of that,
they found out who i actually like...
but i am not gonna write it here...
It was the LONGEST bus ride back of my life!!!

Day 11
It was out Situational Test today,
Here are the 4 stations:
  1. Blind Basha
  2. Hot Zone
  3. Indoor Games
  4. River Crossing
This was a very fun experience indeed,
as we are learning new things along the way,
  • How to tie proper knots?
  • How to build Basha?
  • What games can we play for wet weather?
After that was Live-Firing!!!
With SAR21!!!
The 1st time shooting using it!!!
AWESOME!!!
But, it was really shocking to hear the gun shoots firing again,
as it gave everyone a shock!

The bus took very long to come...
Plus, the bus uncle took the super long route back to HQ...
LOL...
But cos of that,
some of us learnt how to clean SAR21 rifles!!!
It was something we can never forget,
and must never forget in the 1st place...

Day 12
Had lectures on Ethics and Roles of a CLT in the morning,
and later after lunch,
we had a talk by Captain Dickson, ex-DC of Central on our NCC Open House cum Affirmation Ceremony next year.
Thought he sounded as he was scolding all of us,
but i think i can understand why he does so,
as the main reason is because he was behind schedule...
3 months to be extact...
The rest of the day was our rehearsals for Friday's POP.
which ended at about close to 10 and many of us were pissed...

Day 13
2nd last day of COC...
Quite sad...
Had 2 talks today,
one on RSN Sponsorship
and the other on Leadership by a Commando.
After which was our AAR and Certificate Presentation.
Also, they revealed who our Syndicate Best and Course Best were!
My Syndicate best was Ashry from Chung Cheng High (Yishun)
And another one i would like to comment is Syndicate 2's Best,
who was Qiao Wei, my fellow cadet from Juliet 6!!!
Congratz to the both of them!!!
Rehearsals again, which ended late as well...

Day 14 (Last Day)
The last day...
Rehearsals were all the way till before the actual POP...
It was the last day for all of us,
and so we sang:
"Today is our POP, PO... PO..."
"Today is our POP, PO... POP..."
And also the NCC Song!!!

We are the members of the NCC,
Loyal and upright we will be,
Like those who have gone before us,
we stand with pride for all to see!

We are ready(x2)
To be the best that we can be.
Over land on the sea, and in the air,
we are the NCC.

We are the members of the NCC,
serving everyone with humility.
With strength and courage in our hearts:
pressing on the victory!

We are ready(x2)
To be the best that we can be.
Over land on the sea, or in the air,
we are the NCC.

Over land on the sea, or in the air,
We are the NCC(x3)

And so,
the time has arrived!!!

Something is wrong is blogger,
so i will post the pictures on a separate post.
See ya!

58th Craze!!!

From my previous post,
i stopped at Day 4,
so let's continue...

Day 5
Today was my company's adventure training,
where we go through all sorts of adventure obstacles in HQ.
  1. MOC
  2. High Elements
  3. Low Elements
  4. Rappelling
  5. Rock climbing
  6. Flying fox
  7. Paintball
  8. Archery
These were the 8.
It was very fun to go through all these again!!!
Can't wait for the next time i do this!!!

Not forgetting Sergeant Major NCC gave us a talk on the history of Dining-In
as well as the ethics involved...
It was quite a lesson to remember, since wed we will be attending our 1st Military Dining-In.

Day 6
Today, we were out whole day was spent at Nee Soon Camp,
where we learnt First Aid skills,
plus be certified to perform CPR!!!
We learnt what to do and what not to do when people are experiencing certain symptoms,
such as an asthma attack, unconsciousness, etc.
Not forgetting, the different types of bandages to for different types of fractures!

Day 7
Had lecture again at the morning,
can't complain much,
but this lecture was important as it gives us an overview of our NCC Syllabus.
This put me to lots of thinking as i really want to improve my unit's standards...
So much thinking to, yet so little time...

The next lectures was on risk management and conduct of Live Firing,
loads of unimportant rubbish,
but i guess there isn't much of a choice...
still have to listen anyway...

Finally, the moment we have been waiting for...
the 5th NCC Dining-In!!!
Food of choice were Chicken, Beef or Fish.
I picked Chicken of course!
Don't want to talk too much on the Dinner,
but all i could comment is the new NCC Website as well as the top NCC units.
ACS(I) Air, Funan Sec Land, Catholic High Air, Cresent Girls and Tahjong Katong Sea.
All the tough competitors!!!
I am completely psyched to surpass them!!!
Here are some of my favourite pictures:

Air Cadet Officers!!! Unite!!!
Posing around the small circle table...
Lasallian CLTs
Group Photo!!!
My favourite one of all!!! Juliet 6!!!
Day 8
Today, our time spent was at IGTS and SAF LF + SMT
There is nothing much to say,
simply because its totally classified information.
But, it was a fun day as a whole!!!
Haha :D
Why?
All thanks to Michael,
when we started talking about reproduction of animals...
LOL!!!

Day 9
The end of week 2
went through a orienteering and pacing lesson in the morning,
and afterwards its off to SP Maritime Academy.
We went through a boad ride,
mine was the BEST!
As we got no shelter!
and it was SUPER FAST!!!
WOAH!!!
It was then followed by a confidence jump of about 3-5m high,
what's most interesting was that some of us actually wanted to fall in in the ocean!!!
OMG!!!
Ridiculous sia!!!

Dinner was at Suntec City,
and it was like our best meal ever,
since the Dining-In.
Our first performance ever by the 4 syndicates and our CLT instructors!!!
The best part!
Everyone sang except for us!!!
Haha :D
Pictures wise... i only got 1... as our Camera girl didn't come...
That's all!!!
See ya!

Rebirth!

I am back!!!
It's been more than a month since my last post,
and if u all have noticed,
i remade this blog again...
Though the layout is exactly the same,
cos i am very bad with codes,
but i guess its better than having no blog at all...
HAHA :D
so lets get started on a new journey shall we?

This first post is about my 3 weeks journey to become a Cadet Officer of the NCC,
which happen from the 23 November to the 11 December, last friday.
I know i have been a bit slow,
but i can't help myself,
as i got to used to a busy life...
So, let's begin.

Day 1
Our 1st day started off with a talk by the East District Commander, Major James Foo, on our NCC Leadership Competency Model (LCM) and our Core Values.
This was one talk i can never forget, as he taught us many things, and i am going to share with u some of his words.
  • Every batch of cadets are different, thus, we need to use a different approach to train and motivate them.
  • To influence someone, is to be someone who is influential to others.
  • Going through a shared experience or suffering, builds bonds.
  • "Rank" is not important.
Next part of the day, we were exposed to the SAR 21.
Can't say much about this as it is Military Intelligence...
But at least i can finally confirm that my Syndicate's Platoon Commander is Sir Jiahui.
Who was my PC for my Senior Specialist Course.
It was great to meet him again...

Day 2
Today, i was IC of the day.
We went to the Singapore Army Museum and SAFTI MI.
There, we undergone a battlefield using Samsung Phones and GPS,
to answer questions, take pictures and videos.
We were split into groups of 10,
my group was 8, and my teammates were:
Michael, Haffizudin, Fhazrin, Faris, Khairi, Firman, Julie, Hui Qing and Zuraidi.
The morning one, we were still quite uncoordinated,
but everything changed when we continued the race at Bukit Chenok and on to the City Area.
After going through all 10 stations at the City Area,
we were surprised that we came back 1st!
Now, awaiting the results on the next day...
It was a tiring event, but i am proud to say that we became closer to one another within this one day!!!

Day 3
The results were out, and my group came in 1st!!!
Points difference was huge, form about 68.1% to 53.3%...
OMG!!!
The morning was out course photo-taking with Commandant NCC,
and later was lectures on Self Competency and Teamwork by East DC, Major James Foo.
Here are the things he taught us today:
  • What u can do depends as much on ur beliefs as it does on ur ability.
  • The quanlity of help u receive on the way can make all the difference.
  • All meaningful, lasting growth and change starts first on the inside and then works its way out.
  • When we think it is possible, it is possible.
  • Failure lies not in falling down, lies in not getting up.
Day 4
Today, we attended the Neuro-Lingustics Programme (NLP).
It is a programme that teaches us Leadership skills and Individual Improvement Skills.
Our lecturer, Rishi, taught us the everyone has Choices:
  • I decide to do, i do it.
  • I decide not to do, i do not do it.
  • I decide not to do, i do because i have no choice
  • Human beings only do things they want to.
  • u get what u focus on, so u focus on what u want.
  • work with ur unconscious mind to succeed.
  • do not work only with ur conscious mind.
There are many more things that we have learnt,
but i guess i shouldn't reveal everything...
Haha :D

That's all for the first week,
the Second week summary will be done later...
See ya!!!
